Uzo Aduba is already widely regarded as one of the best TV actresses working today — her iconic role as Crazy Eyes on Orange Is The New Black has deservedly landed her two Emmys out of three nominations. Now, the Nigerian-American actress is set to bring that same magic to the movies.
After nabbing the lead role in the upcoming true story about a struggling single mother who starts a game-changing movement, Miss Virginia, she's now set to star alongside Anthony Anderson (Black-ish) in Netflix's upcoming hip-hop drama, Beats.
Described as "a coming-of-age drama set in Chicago’s South Side hip-hop scene", Beats will follow a musical prodigy (Khalil Everage) with borderline agoraphobia, whose path collides with a former music manager (Anderson) who has fallen from grace.
The drama will also feature established and rising Chicago-based hip-hop producers and artists, including original music from Young Chop — the gifted producer who's worked with Ty Dolla $ign, Big Sean, Kanye West, Gucci Mane and many more.
While Aduba's role in Beats hasn't been confirmed yet — we are guessing she'll play the musical prodigy's mother — she will be joined by Emayatzy Corinealdi (Roots), Paul Walter Hauser (I, Tonya) and hip-hop artists, Dave East and Dreezy.
Netflix is planning a 2019 release date, and we can't wait.
