At the beginning of the year, we raved about Instagram sensation, Teni Apata, declaring her "an artiste to watch in 2017." With her incredible single "Fargin", she proved us right – the song slowly becoming quite the surprise hit.
Now, Teni has released a beautiful, compelling music video that is sure to take the track's well-deserved success even further.
Produced by Mystro, "Fargin" (which is actually "Virgin" said with a Yoruba accent) follows a conversation between a man and a young girl – with the man trying to pressure the girl, who isn't ready to lose her virginity, into having sex with him.
Speaking with OkayAfrica about the song, Teni said:
"I want to inspire women to be confident in being virgins, it’s okay to wait. It’s okay to practice safe sex even if it’s not cool.
I hope when young girls hear this song, they understand that they don’t have to be pressured to have unprotected sex."
The video is a bit more lighthearted than the song. Set in a village, it follows Teni as she falls in love with a man, who promises to wait for her till she is ready to have sex. The man eventually loses his patience and dumps her – but the video ends with him returning and promising to respect her wishes.
