2018 has kicked off with some black girl magic and that is no wonder, given that we have people like the amazing Grace Ladoja!
Her new year kicked off with an MBE for her services to the music industry, and she is one of the 452 recipients of this award. Grace is a key figure in the grime music scene and is considered one of the fast rising music executives out today.
This award is a way of recognising people's contributions to the arts and sciences, and public service outside the civil service. Grace is fully deserving of this, as she helped shape Skepta's career as we know it, and we can all agree that he is one of the biggest artists out of the UK. Beyond that, she is an all round cultural advisor as she works with other brands such as Supreme, Barbie, FKA Twigs and more.
Speaking about this achievement on Instagram, Grace said:
"Thank you, I’m thankful. Feeling very overwhelmed by the love I’ve received for this.
I’ve always loved the culture that comes from UK music so to be part of this journey has been so special to me, I think we are the best in the world.
As a scene we have all worked hard to try to leave an impression on this Earth and create new blueprints so that the next generation can flourish, I think that’s my calling in life.
I’m so happy to be here right now. There is so much to do, I can’t wait for next year."
Having met her and heard her speak on the Exposing New Narratives panel a few weeks ago, Grace is truly inspirational and we are very proud of her!
We're looking forward to more wins for more black people this year, this is literally just the beginning!
