In a world where toxic masculinity reigns and women automatically assume a subjugated role (whether it's by choice or not), it's very scarce to find men who are actual allies — men who understand that women are their equals and should be treated as such.
We've had a few male artists attempt to proclaim their supposed allyship through song, but the end result is usually cringe-inducing. However, Tekno manages to do that, rather successfully, on his first single of the year, "Woman".
He starts off the song by listing all the stereotypical roles that are forced upon women, saying that society foolishly expects them to be seen and not heard. He then launches into the hook, where he urges people, specifically men, to stop this reductive way of thinking.
"Woman" might not be Tekno's catchiest track, but it wins points for delivering an important and timely message, and we would like to let other 'allies' — *cough* Falz *cough* — know that this is how to actually support women. We can't wait to hear what the afropop star drops next.
