Since Davido launched his record label, DMW, he's been on a signing spree. He's signed Mayorkun, the label's shining star; Fresh VDM, one the best producers working today; as well as Peruzzi, Dremo and Yonda, who all kinda sound the same to be honest.
Last week, Davido tweeted that it's time to sign a female artist, so we were expecting his newest signee to be a woman, but to our complete shock, he announced that he's just signed Sauce Kid! What a blast from the past!
Announcing my new artist tonite in DC !!— Davido (@iam_Davido) May 28, 2018
Long before Davido's rise to the top, Sauce Kid was running the music game, as he gave us monster hits like "Samboribobo" and "Under G". When Davido was new on the scene, he even featured on one of Sauce Kid's hits, "Carolina", and following the success of "Back When" and "Dami Duro", that collaboration further pushed him into the spotlight.
Sauce Kid, unfortunately, had a few years out of the game while he was incarcerated, and inevitably fell off as a result. Now, it looks like he's on the verge of a career revival. As we know Sauce Kid is super talented, and while we are not mad at him joining DMW, we really think it's time for Davido to sign a female artist, as his label is currently a massive sausage fest.
The ratio of men to women in the music industry is shameful, and we'll need more people in positions of power to remedy this. Since Davido and Teni The Entertainer seem to have a good working relationship — she wrote his stellar "Like Dat" — we think she could be a great candidate!
Anyway, we're definitely looking forward to hearing more from Sauce Kid and we hope he doesn't fall short of our expectations!
