Since Pretty Boy D-O broke out with his fantastic dance anthem, "Footwork", he's managed to prove he's no one-hit wonder with his follow-ups. Therefore, his long-teased debut project, Everything Pretty was highly anticipated, and now it's finally here.
Even though we can't quite place our finger on what exactly D-O's sound is, it's cohesive, enjoyable and entertaining. Everything Pretty is a testament to that, as D-O's playful energy shines through and the project's first seven songs are straight hits.
From the first song, "The Motto", Everything Pretty arrests you with its infectious vibe. The rest of the mixtape keeps the same energy, with standout tracks being the affectionate "Shawn Michael", the bolshy "Pull Up" featuring Santi, and the Odunsi-produced "Pata Pata".
Speaking to Konbini about the inspiration behind Everything Pretty, D-O said:
"I just basically wanted to make something that any young person can identify with. I wanted to make something for people who are in this transitional phase to identify with, no matter where you're from.
I really want the message of self-belief to resonate, because this project is basically a middle finger to naysayers. I want to pass the message that as long as you know what you're doing and you're grinding, you're a diamond in the rough."
Everything Pretty is exactly what we expected from the energetic musician, and we're proud to say that we were right about him from the jump. With a debut project this solid and self-assured, there's really nowhere else for the talented star to go but up.
