Last year, we complained about the fact that we hardly get collaborations between women in Nigerian music. Well, it looks like our cry was heard, as Bella Alubo has just released a brand new EP, re-Bella, which is littered with features from different talented women.
A gifted rapper and a confident vocalist, Bella Alubo first gained our attention two years ago with her impressive breakout song, "Radio". Since then, she's released a fantastic joint EP with labelmate, YCee, which kept us even more interested in her.
At seven tracks long, re-Bella starts off with the BOJ-assisted "Ask Bolaji", which includes a nostalgic sample from his debut EP, #BOTM. Unfortunately, what follows doesn't quite live up to our expectation, however, it's clear that Bella still has a lot of room to grow.
Apart from some of the project's middling tracks, featuring women from all over Africa — Nigeria's Victoria Kimani, Ghana's Efya and South Africa's Sho Madjozi — was certainly a noteworthy move, and we hope to see more women take this initiative in the future.
