About a month ago, Davido shocked and excited music fans when he announced that he'd signed Sinzu to his record label, DMW — a move that took us all the way back to the start of this decade, when the "Carolina" rapper was still at the top of his game.
Although Sinzu hasn't actually dropped any singles since then — he's featured on a track with Bils and teased the release of a new music video — Davido recently promised fans that we will be getting an album from the rapper before the year runs out.
Following Davido's recent groundbreaking win at the BET Awards — where he became the first artist to receive the 'Best International Act' award on the main stage — the afropop superstar spoke with Pulse about signing Sinzu and their upcoming albums.
About why he signed Sinzu following the rapper's release from prison, Davido said:
"Sinzu has been a great friend of mine. He was one of my mentors when I first started, and when I heard he had got out, I spoke to him, and he was really proud of me.
I was like, 'yo Sinzu, come to DMW, let's run this stuff'. He is my big brother; expect his album this year."
About his own upcoming album and potential international collaborations, Davido continued:
"Just expect greatness, there will be hits and mad songs, great songs.
Just forget [international collaborations] and enjoy the mad songs. There will be collaborations though, but it will be few".
Davido is currently working on the music video for his third official single of the year, "Nwa Baby" — which, if those teasers are any indication, seems poised to be one of the biggest and best Nigerian songs of 2018. We can't wait!
