The Gods Heard Our Prayers: 'American Gods' Is Renewed For Season 2

Even though American Gods just started a couple of weeks ago on Starz, the show has already been renewed for a second season. I guess you could say the series has already made a big impression.

Both critics and audiences have nothing but praise for the show, which is listed with a 95% satisfaction score on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you haven't seen it yet, American Gods is an epic fantasy in which ancient gods who came to America in successive waves of immigration, have to confront the new deities of American society, which are pure products of consumerism and individualism: technology, drugs, media, guns...

And the main character, Shadow, who has just gotten out of prison, finds himself right in the thick of it.

The success of the show can be chalked up to its four creators, all masters of fiction: Bryan Fuller, the showrunner; Michael Green, his writing partner; David Slade, as director; and of course, Neil Gaiman, the author of the eponymous novel, which long held a reputation for being impossible to adapt for television.

American Gods is showing lots of promise, and Deadline tells us that season 2 will start some time next year. It makes sense for the show to continue, because according to Bryan Fuller, season 1 only covers about a third of the novel. And in 600 pages, we imagine there's quite a lot to unpack!
