With Solo: A Star Wars Story finally hitting cinemas, Disney has kept the ball rolling by announcing the next chapter in the Star Wars saga. As the Hollywood Reporter reveals, the upcoming ninth installment will be released around the end of 2019 and is set to focus on Boba Fett.
The news serves to confirm rumours that have been hanging around for some time. Set to write and direct the movie will be James Mangold, who recently proved his worth with the brilliant Logan, earning himself an Oscar nomination.
As a reminder, bounty hunter, Boba Fett first appeared in 1980 in The Empire Strikes Back, when he was recruited by Darth Vador to track the Millenium Falcon. We then caught him hanging out with Jabba in Return of the Jedi in 1983, before he got eaten by the Sarlacc.
Dedicated fans will be more familiar with the character from the books, comics, video games and animated series of the Star Wars extended universe. This spin-off will provide the opportunity to see his tale on the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Lucasfilm is still in the process of developing separate films centering around other characters, including one about Obi-Wan Kenobi, which has Stephen Daldry in negotiations to direct.
