While rumours had been circling for a while, the latest poster for Avengers: Infinity War has made it official: Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is set to feature in the upcoming Marvel movie. As it turns out, his name was subtly thrown in among the fine-print credits, alongside the likes of Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston.
It's worth noting that Benicio del Toro, who played the Collector in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, is also cited on the poster. However, Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) are all missing.
Dinklage's role in the movie hasn't been announced yet but we have a few ideas of our own. It has been suggested that he could voicing one of Thanos's Black Order, as Bradley Cooper did for Rocket or Vin Diesel did for Groot. Perhaps the most likely theory, the lethal aliens will be brought to life through CGI but will be in need of voices, and who better for the job than Dinklage and his gravelly tones?
Another theory, shared by Screenrant, says he could be set to play Eitri, the leader of the Dwarves of Nidavellir, one of the Asgardians's Nine Realms. As for the names missing on the poster, one Redditer has come up with an explanation:
"Hawkeye isn’t in the film because he has gone with Nick Fury, Maria Hill & maybe Ant-Man to search for Captain Marvel, who Fury has known in the past and the whole time pretended she never existed due to something that happened in Captain Marvel (maybe the death of Mar-Vell)."
"Captain Marvel will have the Soul Stone or know of its whereabouts and we will see the history of her and the soul stone in her prequel movie between both Avengers", the theory continues. "Captain Marvel, Hill, Fury, Hawkeye and maybe Ant-Man will then return in the second film to defeat Thanos with the help of the Soul Stone (which according to the MCU, is the most powerful gem)."
Sounds plausible but only time will tell. Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27.
