John Boyega Set To Produce South African Crime-Thriller, 'God is Good'

John Boyega is certainly continuing his enviable streak this 2019! Deadline just broke the news that the beloved British-Nigerian actor and producer will be executive producing a South African crime-thriller, God Is Good.

God Is Good will be set in Cape Town’s Cape Flats and will follow a reformed gangster-turned-pastor who crosses paths with a volatile detective, after an act of brutal violence sets them on a collision course with a heinous gang lieutenant.

John Boyega's new production company, UpperRoom Productions will produce the upcoming movie along with a young UK production outfit, Bandit Country. Boyega's brand new record label, UpperRoom Records, will also oversee the film’s soundtrack.

John Boyega spoke to Deadline about the project:

"A powerful and important story that explores themes of fathers and fatherhood, toxic masculinity, race and faith in a community that has become trapped in an unending cycle of violence and racial oppression, and where sometimes it seems for men that violence is the only way of achieving power.

The team will work with artists across the continent of Africa to create a soundtrack that represents and gives voice to the incredible range of music talent and sound that the continent produces."

The movie is written and will be directed by first-time South African feature filmmaker, Willem Grobler; and it will feature many African artists, including emerging South African rapper, YoungstaCPT, who grew up in Cape Flats.

Casting decisions have not yet been made, but discussions are underway, and shooting is set to start later this year.

Tech and politics. Is there even a difference between the two?
