It made a strong start, and there was no reason for that to change. After all, the latest Marvel film had already beaten a sacred record in terms of box office sales, becoming the film with the biggest box-office opening in the history of cinema. And now Avengers: Infinity War has entered the privileged club of films exceeding one billion dollars in box office sales.
Indeed, ticket sales currently stand at 1.164 billion dollars. We can’t say we’re surprised, but achieving this score in just 11 days also beats a record held until now by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which took 12 short days to gross one billion. In comparison, it took Black Panther 26 days to top this threshold.
This score is even more impressive given that the film hasn’t yet been released in China, a country which represents a significant proportion of box office income for this type of blockbuster. It will be released there on May 11. Suffice to say, it’s a matter of days before it blasts MCU’s other films off the scoreboard, including Black Panther (1.34 billion dollars), Avengers: Age Of Ultron (1.4 billion dollars) and the very first Avengers (1.52 billion dollars).
Next step two billion? Only time will tell.
