Amy Adams Confronts Her Demons In New HBO Thriller 'Sharp Objects'

After playing a major part in the success of award-winning show Big Little Lies, director Jean-Marc Vallée has been welcomed back to HBO for a brand new mini-series.

Starring Amy Adams, the new show is to be based around the debut novel of author Gillian Flynn, who also wrote the original Gone Girl story. Sharp Objects will be adapted for the small screen by Marti Noxon, known for her work on UnREAL and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Today, we've been given some idea of the show's aesthetic thanks to these first photos from Entertainment Weeklyand we can practically feel the tension from here.

For the eight-part series, Amy Adams will be playing the role of Camille, a criminal reporter recently released from a mental hospital after a bout of self-harm. Returning home to Wind Gap, Missouri, on an assignment, she investigates the murder of two girls and finds herself moving back to her family home.

There, she is forced to face her demons as she reenters a toxic relationship with her socialite mother Adora (Patricia Clarkson) and her spoilt half-sister Amma (Eliza Scanlen). Basically, we can expect big drama and a few frights along the way.

This won't be Adams' first television appearance, following pre-Hollywood roles in That '70s Show and Charmed, as well as a cameo in The Office

Sharp Objects is expected to drop on HBO in summer 2018
