There is no way you live in Lagos and don't attend at least one owanbe a year. From weddings to birthdays, the Lagos party scene is always buzzing and almost never-ending. This is what wedding photographer, Jide Odukoya, captures so flawlessly in his photo series, Turn It Up.
Jide Odukoya is a self-taught photographer, whose work focuses on long-term and short-term documentary photography projects with a particular interest in lifestyle.
In this series, Jide Odukoya aims to shift the focus from the constant narrative of poverty in Africa to some of Nigeria's more luxurious scenes. His series is a response to the stereotype that Africa is only a dark, hopeless and helpless continent.
This series shows Nigeria abuzz, with coverage of opulent events and activities designed for those who belong in the upper echelon of society, such as exotic weddings, bridal showers and birthday parties. Turn It Up! shows a different side to Africa, featuring celebrations that could rival some of the most outrageous all around the world.
