Will Smith is wholeheartedly an American icon, and we're definitely giving the side eye to anyone who's in denial about it. He brought us countless enjoyable films, gave us Willow and Jaden Smith and not to mention season after season of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.
While we all probably love watching reruns of Fresh Prince, Will on the other hand, can't barely stand it. In interview with The Graham Norton Show, Will admits:
“It was my very first role, and I was very, very focused on being successful, so I learned the whole script and everyone else’s lines,” Smith said. “If you watch the first four or five episodes, you can see I’m mouthing other people’s lines. It’s terrible and I can’t bear to watch it.”
Truth be told, this is kind of adorable, and I'm personally going back to watch the old episodes to see if I can catch Will mumbling lines in the background. All this hard work clearly made Smith the star he is today, but he was already clearly a natural since he never auditioned for the show– he simply walked in and got the part.
And while Smith seems to still have enjoyed playing his Fresh Prince character for six enjoyable seasons – from 1990 through 1996 – he says there won't be a revival of the show happening any time soon. In fact, he told ET back in August:
“Stuff [would have] to go really wrong for there to be a Fresh Prince reunion special. Like, I don't know what would have to happen! Nah man, you can't touch stuff like that. It's so nostalgic for people– I'm not going nowhere near that.”
No worries Will; we're all still fully satisfied with just the throwback episodes as well.
