Watch The Intense Trailer For 'The Innocents', Netflix's New Teen Drama

A story of thwarted love, supernatural powers, a dark atmosphere... That's pretty much what we can gather from the new trailer for The Innocents, the series Netflix has produced to ease the transition from summer into fall.

Written by Hania Elkington and Simon Duric, The Innocents is our new favorite here at Biiinge. The series follows the story of Harry and June, two teenagers who can't stand their narrow-minded small town or their families, and decide to run away together to live out their relationship as they see fit. But there's a twist. After a really freaky nocturnal encounter, in which June is almost kidnapped, the young woman is stunned to realize that she can take on the physical appearance of someone else. She belongs to a unique species of human, the 'shape-shifters', because it soon becomes clear she's not the only one...

The trailer gives us a glimpse of a narrative arc which reminds us a bit of The OA and the experiments carried out by Hap: indeed, it seems like June's mom is kept (against her will or voluntarily, it isn't really clear) in a laboratory, where she and other shape-shifters are studied by a professor, played by Guy Pearce, who clearly doesn't only have their best interests at heart…

The Innocents is the latest in a long line of dark teen dramas, including Impulse and Cloak and Dagger, with a realist feel but a good dose of the supernatural. Will the series keep its promises? We'll find out from August 24 on Netflix, when the eight episodes of the first season will be available online.
