Tommy Lee Jones Hated Working With Jim Carrey On 'Batman Forever'

The world's having a bit of a Jim Carrey moment between that now legendary fashion week interview, his debut into the world of visual art and an upcoming documentary following his impressive preparatory efforts for Man on the Moon

On the promo trail for his latest projects, the 55-year-old actor has taken the opportunity to drop a few awkward showbiz secrets. Speaking during an appearance on Norm Macdonald Live, Carrey has spoken out about how his Batman Forever co-star Tommy Lee Jones apparently couldn't stand him.

Released in 1995, Carrey famously played the Riddler in the movie while Jones played Two-Face. While fans may already know there was no love lost between the pair, Carrey has offered another sequence of events.

Telling a story about how he bumped into his co-star in a restaurant, Carrey explains:

"The maitre said, 'Oh, I hear you're working with Tommy Lee Jones. He's over in the corner having dinner.' I went over and I said, 'Hey Tommy, how are you doing?' and the blood just drained from his face.

And he got up shaking  — he must have been in mid kill me fantasy or something like that. And he went to hug me and he said, 'I hate you. I really don't like you.' And I said, 'What's the problem?' and pulled up a chair, which probably wasn't smart. And he said, 'I cannot sanction your buffoonery.'"

Speaking about the reasons for Jones' hatred, Carrey noted: "I was the star and that was the problem." A version of the story that was more or less backed up by director Joel Schumacher back in 1996 who explained:

"Jim Carrey was a gentleman and Tommy Lee was threatened by him."

Ever the gent, Carrey went on to defend Jones saying: "He might have been uncomfortable doing that work, too. That's not really his style of stuff."

Despite it all, he also adds: "He's a phenomenal actor, though. I still love him."
