Several months ago, we speculated on the actors in the running to take over the role of James Bond. Daniel Craig is preparing to play England's most famous spy for the last time in the coming installment of the mega-franchise, which will be directed by the excellent Danny Boyle. After that? Our first thought was Cillian Murphy, who could be great in the role of 007, but also Tom Hardy. And we clearly weren't alone in that thought.
In an interview with the Daily Mail to mark the coming release of the Mamma Mia! sequel, Pierce Brosnan, the James Bond of our childhood in the cult GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day, explained his view on who would be the best actor for the role. And surprise: he thinks it should be Tom Hardy. He said:
"I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond. I'd be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it—that's what makes Bond."
While rumors about the role have also mentioned Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and even Michael Fassbender, nothing has yet been confirmed, although the opinion of a former 007 is a good indicator. It remains to be seen what the bosses of the franchise decide.
In any case, we'll most likely have to wait for the release of the next installment before we find out who'll be wearing the iconic tux — that is, November 2019.
