There was a lot of talk about the Joker following the release of Suicide Squad after it emerged that a huge amount of scenes featuring the character had been cut. But if you were upset at the time this news should go some way to cheering you up. As Variety reports, Jared Leto is about to get an entire Joker movie to himself.
No plot details have been released for the moment, but it seems the studio is looking to extend the universe created in Suicide Squad. A few months ago, we also learnt that Margot Robbie was working with Warner Bros. on a new project featuring Harley Quinn – which appears to be separate from upcoming Gotham City Sirens, poised to focus on DC Comics' anti-heroines. Finally, a film based around the Joker and his former psychiatrist also seems to be in the works.
No directors or screenwriters have yet been attached to the project which is expected to start filming next year around the same time as Suicide Squad 2. In other DC news, Martin Scorsese's Joker movie apparently kicked off filming last month with Todd Phillips (War Dogs, The Hangover) at the helm and Joaquin Phoenix rumoured to take on the main role.
